Exciting experience

I love the city of Milan, I was here for 2 months and still didn’t get a chance to do everything. There’s so much to do in Milan but my favorite part was meeting people from all around the world even others in the program. I’m a “foodie” so being in a city like Milan made trying new food so simple, every street has something unique on it and the food is amazing almost everywhere. Global experiences made everything easy on us which I’m grateful for. It was truly an amazing experience I would recommend this trip to anyone and I would do it again.

An amazing experience!

I was exposed to the fashion industry. This is something new to me, and I am so grateful for the efforts the advisors made to help me find this position. As long as you are vocal about what you are looking for, that is what counts the most. The more specific I was and the detailed feed back I gave to them after my interviews allowed them to find the BEST option for me. Apart from the job, I genuinely cannot say I have had an experience like this. I met new people, I got to know a new culture, I was allowed to travel on my free time, and ate some very good food!!

Summer Abroad!

I had a great experience this summer in Milan. From my internship, the friendships I made, and the advisors we had, everything was perfect. I learned so much about myself this summer through living on my own in a foreign country. It got hard at times when I was home sick but it was super easy to book a trip and get out of the funk. I learned a lot during my internship that I will be able to apply to other jobs back in America. Overall my favorite part of this experience is the relationships I made with those around me!

Pros
  • The friends I made
  • How easy it is to travel
  • Personal growth
Cons
  • No air conditioning
  • Unpaid internships
  • Expensive

A perfect experience for professional growth and travel

As a journalism intern with Romeing Magazine through Global Experiences, I had the opportunity to discover Florence, Italy through a unique lens that led me to exciting discoveries I could have never imagined prior to this experience. I was able to cover and write about exhibitions at several museums, visit delicious restaurants and exciting events, and make friends that will last me a lifetime. In addition to the growth I experienced personally and professionally, I had a lot of fun on the several excursions and events the AIFS/Global Experiences team planned for participants. I especially enjoyed being able to take a fresco painting class before touring the beautiful and awe-inspiring Palazzo Vecchio. I will never forget the two months I spent as an intern in Florence through this program — wish I could live it all again!

I loved my program abroad!

I had the best time abroad in Florence, Italy through my internship program. I went into it not knowing anyone and met some of my closest friends now. My internship placement was pretty good. I worked in a local restaurant and ended up doing some marketing and social media work for the restaurant. I loved the people I worked with, although communication was a little rough, but I ended growing a lot from this experience. I also had time to travel on the weekends to many different places. Overall, it was truly one of the best experiences of my life!

Pros
  • Lots of time to travel on the weekends
  • Met a lot of people
  • Perfect growing experience
Cons
  • Internships were different than expected

Great Experience

I enjoyed my time in Florence! While my internship did not directly relate to what I will be pursuing in the future for my career, I still gained valuable skills. I enjoyed the social events provided and definitely felt like it was worth what I paid for. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was the availability of support staff after hours. Friends and I had trouble getting in touch with them during emergency situations, but other than that I had a fabulous time and would recommend this program if you are looking for an internship abroad (probably better for people not studying psychology, social work, philosophy, and other arts, etc.)

Pros
  • Great city
  • Great accommodation
  • Great social scene
Cons
  • Availability of support staff after hours
  • Internship relatability to my future career

Amazing and memorable

This experience has been really great. I loved the first two weeks of the Italian language crash course. I wish we had more classes. My internship took some getting used to but that was a given. Once I settled in more, I became more comfortable in the workplace and with my coworkers. Our Location Coordinators were absolutely wonderful. They gave us so much advice and made the group events a blast. They made the experience so enjoyable and made the whole process of coming to Milan and finding our way much easier.

Pros
  • Fun group events
  • Easy to travel to other cities in Italy
  • Meet a lot of new people
Cons
  • Didn't learn quite enough Italian to have a basic conversation

The Best Experience

I am so glad I chose to participate in this experience. I was able to immerse myself in a new culture while learning more about the field I'm studying and also making a ton of new friends. I feel like I have also grown personally and I have shown myself what I can be capable of. My program supervisors, Amanda and Antonella, were so helpful to me and all of the other interns. They were always there to answer our questions no matter how big or small. They dealt with our serious concerns but also became our friends - giving us their genuine advice on how to have the best time possible here in Milan. I will be so sad to leave all the people I met during this experience.

Pros
  • learned new skills to build my resume
  • amazing food :)
  • met new people and gained new perspectives
Cons
  • very hot, no AC
  • expensive
